They/Live - "Ablation" - 12"

They / Live (for the uninitiated), is an electro/synth-pop endeavor from Whitney Mower & Alex Dupree. There is a lot to unpack when examining their full length offering 'Ablation', from Born Losers Records (Philidelphia) - engineered and mixed by Grammy holding Steve Christensen. Summoning the namesake of a John Carpenter film is not a superficial move in my book - however the music undeniably solidifies this as a worthy gesture. The journey of a listen to 'Ablation' is one that simultaneously hits the mark for both 'a modern, creative, pop talent' and 'a classy, genuine, nod to past greats in the space'. Absolutely worth a closer look, and I hope they continue to release music beyond this May 2020 release, we should be so lucky. -NCV
